When decay or trauma reaches the pulp inside a tooth, root canal treatment removes the infected tissue, disinfects the canal system and seals it — allowing you to keep the natural tooth.

Root Canals: common questions
Is a root canal painful?
The procedure itself is performed under local anesthetic and is usually comparable to having a filling. Most of the pain patients associate with root canals comes from the infection beforehand, which treatment relieves.
Can I just have the tooth removed instead?
Extraction is an option, but replacing a missing tooth is generally more involved and more costly than saving it. We will explain both paths honestly.
