Fillings

Conservative, tooth-colored restorations that repair decay while preserving as much healthy tooth as possible.

Fillings at Advani Dental Group in Sunnyvale, California

A filling restores a tooth affected by decay or minor fracture. We use tooth-colored composite materials that bond to the tooth and blend with the surrounding enamel.

Our approach is deliberately conservative: remove only what needs to be removed, and preserve healthy tooth structure wherever possible.

Who this may help

  • Patients with newly detected cavities
  • Small chips or fractures in a tooth
  • Replacement of old or failing fillings
  • Patients who prefer tooth-colored materials

How treatment works

01

Diagnosis

We confirm the extent of decay with examination and, where helpful, laser detection or imaging.

02

Comfort

Anesthesia as needed. For some small cavities, laser or air abrasion treatment may reduce the need for it.

03

Preparation

Decay is removed and the tooth is cleaned and prepared for bonding.

04

Restoration

Composite material is placed in layers, shaped to your bite and polished.

What to expect

  • Most single fillings take 30–60 minutes.
  • Mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards is common.
  • Your bite is checked and adjusted before you leave.

Benefits and considerations

  • Natural appearance that blends with your tooth
  • Bonded restoration that supports remaining structure
  • Usually completed in a single visit
  • Prevents decay from progressing toward the nerve

Technology involved

Where clinically appropriate, the Solea dental laser or air abrasion can allow smaller fillings to be completed with reduced drilling, noise and vibration.

Fillings: common questions

How long does a filling last?

Longevity depends on the size of the restoration, your bite and your home care. Many composite fillings last many years; we monitor them at every recall visit.

Will I need an injection?

Often, but not always. Very small cavities can sometimes be treated with the laser or air abrasion with little or no anesthetic. We discuss this with you beforehand.
