Questions
How does DIAGNOdent find cavities?
It directs harmless laser light at the tooth and measures the fluorescence that returns. Decayed tooth structure fluoresces differently from healthy structure, which produces a reading the dentist interprets alongside the clinical examination.
Does it replace X-rays?
No. It complements them. Radiographs still show areas between teeth and below the gumline that a surface scan cannot assess.
